Osceola, Indiana

Summer, 1993

This is a collection of sightings from the Summer of 1993.

  • On an early morning walk through the neighborhood, I discovered several ☆Bank Swallow☆ swooping over the small pond behind one of the new houses. I have also seen them flying through my yard.
  • From time to time over the years, I have heard a lone ☆Whip-poor-will☆ singing in the fields off Beech Road. I always enjoy hearing this cheerful song on a summer night.
  • I’ve only spotted Eastern Phoebe in our yard just once.
  • On a couple of occasions I have seen and heard little Chimney Swifts flitting about over our property.
  • Spotted a big, beautiful Great Blue Heron flying over my yard while I was out doing some gardening. They never cease to impress me with their size and their grandeur.
  • Tiny, adorable ☆Ruby-throated Hummingbirds☆ are regular visitors whenever I put out the hummingbird feeder. They are so amazing – their rapid wingbeats, their grace, their size. In some Native American traditions, hummingbirds represent joy and it is easy to see why!
  • Barn Swallow☆ are beautiful little birds that I have seen in the yard on a number of occasions. I always enjoy seeing swallows!
  • While on a walk in the woods to the west of Beech Road, I heard the distinctive song of an ☆Eastern Wood-Pewee☆, but never actually spotted the bird.
